Mothists fired up for New Year

Following the 2013 International Moth World Championship in Kaneohe, Hawaii, the US Moth Class looks forward to 2014 with an expanded race schedule. “Thanks to the foiling America’s Cup boats, the quality of sailors the Moth class attracts, and a very exciting boat, the class is experiencing unprecedented growth,” said Matt Knowles, Class President. “We have new owners joining in on the action from all sections of the country.”

The 2014 Schedule:

Winter Series: Sailing out of the Upper Keys Sailing Club in Key Largo, FL, Regatta 1 is Jan 3-5 (slalom on 1/3); Regatta 2 is Jan 31-Feb 2 (slalom on 1/31); and Regatta 3 (US National Championship) is March 21-23.
North Americans: Held at the James Island Yacht Club in Charleston, SC, the NA Championship on April 4-6 is the weekend before Charleston Race Week.
11th Hour Cup: Sail Newport in Newport, RI will host the Moths on May 16-18 out of its new regatta center at the northern tip of Fort Adams State Park,
Torresen Marine Moth Madness: Racing on June 6-8 in Muskegon, MI
World Championship: Racing July 19-25 in Hayling Island SC, England
Bronco Bay Showdown: Racing on August (exact dates TBD) in Barrington, RI

“Never before has the class been so organized with so many events in our near future,” said 2013 World Champion Bora Gulari. “This will give us the time on the water we will need to defend the title.”
