Published on January 26th, 2014

Armel Le Cléac’h (FRA) sailing the 105-foot trimaran Maxi Solo Banque Populaire VII (formerly Groupama 3) has set a new singlehanded 24 hour distance record of 677nm (28.2 knot avg). Le Cléac’h set the record while attempting to break the Discovery Route record between Cadiz (Spain) and San Salvador (Bahamas). The previous record of 666.2nm (27.75 kts) was set in 2012 by Francis Joyon (FRA) on the 95-foot trimaran IDEC. Le Cléac’h record must still be ratified by the World Sailing Speed Record Council.
