Cayard and Liljedahl Win Walker Cup

Published on February 9th, 2014

Miami, FL (February 9, 2014) – The Star Winter Series wrapped up today with Paul Cayard and Magnus Liljedahl winning the Walker Cup. Three  races were completed on Saturday but light winds conspired against racing on Sunday. Full results

The overall SWS trophy went to Augie Diaz and Arni Baltins who eeked out a win over Californian Jim Buckingham with a whole stable of top crews throughout the series. Cayard also won the Midwinters in January and is gunning for the Bacardi Cup with a slew of top names like Robert Scheidt, Lars and Torben Grael, Vince Brun, and current world champion John MacCausland with Phil Trinter.

The Winter Series had 42 competitors this year with deeper talent. The event has gotten traction as an answer to the boat being out of the Olympics and Miami, with it’s hat in the ring for the 2016 Worlds ensures the Winter Series is only going to grow. The Star remains “the” class to make a name for yourself in keelboats.
