Sail Canada has announced the members of the 2014 Canadian Sailing Team. The ISAF Sailing World Cup Miami marked the final qualification opportunity for hopefuls at the end of January.
This year’s lineup includes some familiar faces such as 2012 Olympians Nikola Girke, Luke Ramsay (Nacra 17), Zac Plavsic (RSX:M), and Greg Douglas (Finn). 2012 Paralympians Bruce Millar (2.4mR), Paul Tingley, Logan Campbell & Scott Lutes (Sonar) are all in the mix along with Rolex Sailor of the Year finalists John McRoberts and Jackie Gay (SKUD).
There are a total of 6 new team members in the Laser, Radial and RS:X Men, including Youth Worlds qualifier, Gabriel Verrier-Paquette. The list of qualified sailors is based on the Sport Canada carding criteria.
“2014 is a big year for the Canadian team with the first of the Olympic country qualifiers occurring in September in Santander, Spain,” says High Performance Director Ken Dool. “The 2014 Canadian Sailing Team includes both the future performers in our sport and the veteran team members looking to make their mark internationally. I take pleasure in welcoming both new team members and veteran performers to the 2014 Canadian Sailing Team.”
Sailing Team veteran Luke Ramsay is also looking forward to the work ahead saying “It is an honour to be representing Canada once again. We are now half way through the quad and things are looking bright for the team as a whole. I’m really excited about the new talent on the team and the opportunity to work with new athletes and coaches. Let’s make 2014 great!”
Sail Canada coaching staff include Ken Dool, Steve Mitchell, Erik Stibbe, Mark Asquith & Chris Cook.
