Diaz continues to dominate Snipe Winter Circuit

Published on March 22nd, 2014

Miami, FL (March 22, 2014) – With winds building throughout the day toward the 14 knot range, Augie Diaz of Miami and Aine McLean of San Diego maintained their lead on the second day of the Snipe Don Q regatta.

A dominating 1st place finish in the day’s second race after a “Z” Flag penalty in the first race of the day kept Miami’s Ernesto Rodriguez and Eduardo Mentcias in second. The final race is scheduled on Sunday with forecast winds of 5 knots or less. Manu Hens and Yannick Laumans of Belgium are in third, followed by Doug Hart and Ryan Hopps of Mission Bay and Mission Bay’s Eric Hein, sailing with Alan Capellen of Tampa, Fl.

Whereas historically one of the favorite perks of the Don Q Regatta was that sailors were met by ladies of Coconut Grove with trays of daiquiris at the dock after Saturday’s racing, perhaps it is a sad sign of the times that this year they queued up for pina coladas and strawberry daiquiris at a blender on the patio under the porch.
