College Sailing Chalk Talk: Season 10, Episode 4

Published on April 17th, 2014

Chris Love provides this report on the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) 2013-2014 season along with his weekly Chalk Talk video:

(April 17, 2014) – This week in college sailing, fleet racing returned in a big way: Navy hosted the Truxtun Umsted, featuring 420, FJ, and Laser Standard and Radial divisions, and Coast Guard hosted the Thompson Trophy, which added a third division of double handed racing this year. On top of that, Boston University held the President’s Trophy women’s regatta, Texas A&M Galveston put on the SEISA Coed Conference Champs, and Yale welcomed Ivy League teams and more to the Owen, Mosbacher and Knapp Trophies regatta.

The most dominating performance came from Yale’s Graham Landy and Katherine Gaumond at home, winning nearly every race and easily taking the overall win at the Owen. But in terms of interconference competition, the big winner was College of Charleston, who finished 3rd, 2nd, 1st, and 1st in the four divisions at the Trux for a convincing win there. Stanford also looked strong this weekend, finishing top-two in each division at the Thompson for the win. Texas A&M Galveston and Tulane qualified for coed nationals at their conference championship.

The women of college sailing had their last regular season interconfernce regatta in Boston, with URI on top. Over the next few weekends, conferences will each put on a women’s conference championships to determine who goes to Nationals. Texas A&M Galveston, Texas A&M, Stanford, Hawaii and UC Santa Barbara have already qualified.
