Long Beach Island, NJ (July 21, 2014) – The 2014 c420 North Americans started at Brant Beach Yacht Club today. This year there are 115 boats from all over North America. The format for the event is a qualifying series of at least 5 races and then the fleet is split into a gold and silver fleet. The qualifying round has the fleet spilt into 2 groups and 2 starts.

Day 1 saw breeze of 5-10 kts from the NNE with the breeze moving right all day and beautiful sunshine. The Team of Martina Sly and Ian Morgan were dominant today posting scores 2,1,1,2. Martina and Ian are sailing their second regatta of the triple crown having already won c420 New England’s earlier in the summer. Annapolis YC’s Emma White and Grace Lucas had an equally good day posting a 1,2,2,5 for the day. These two teams clearly had the conditions figured out and were sailing fast. Sitting in third is the St. Thomas/ Pleon team of Thomas Walden and William Hundahl scoring a 14,5,1,2.

On Day 2 four races are scheduled. After tomorrow the competitors will be split into gold and silver fleets.
