Qualification Series Wraps at 420 Worlds

Travemunde, Germany (July 30, 2014) – Two races for all fleets on race day 3 complete the 6 race qualification series. With the discard kicking in after race 5, some shuffling on the leaderboard as teams discarded their worst score in the 420 Open and 420 Ladies fleets.
A win in race 5 handed the overall lead to Portugal’s Diogo Pereira/Manuel Macedo in the 420 Open fleet, as overnight leaders Adrian Domminguez/Calixto Abalo (ESP) scored a 32, their worst result so far, and dropped down to 5th. All change in Race 6 as Jose Manuel Ruiz/Fernando Davila (ESP) finished 2nd and jumped up to take the lead, by 6 points, with Dominguez/Abalo moving back up the leaderboard from a 6th place finish, to end the day in second overall and Singapore’s Jia Yi Loh/Jonathan Yeo in third.
Kimberly Lim/Savannah Siew (SIN) retain their overnight lead and go into the final series heading up the gold fleet. Italy’s Carlotta Omari/Francesca Russo Cirillo move up to second overall and Greece’s Aikaterini Tavoulari/Fotini Koutsoumpou (GRE) are in third.
The 111 teams in the 420 Open fleet will now be split into a 56-boat Gold fleet and 55-boat Silver fleet for the 6 race final series, which gets underway on Friday 1 August. The 84 teams in the 420 Ladies fleet will be split into equal Gold and Silver fleets of 42 boats in each. Thursday, July 31 is a lay day, so teams can relax and enjoy the party at the venue. Racing is scheduled to get underway on Friday, August 1 with two races scheduled for the 420 Open and 420 Ladies. Gold fleets will start first, followed by Silver fleets.
