Big breeze wraps up Sail Canada Youth Champs

Kingston, ONT (August 14, 2014) – The fourth and final day of the Sail Canada Youth Championships at CORK International provided yet another day of strong Kingston breeze in the 15-24 knot range. Hitting the water first for a 1030 start was the 29ers, followed by the four other fleets at 1100.

The 29er course had a full day of racing, completing 3 races to finish the regatta with a total of 5 races. Competition was strong today and only 2 points separate the first place boat from the third. Taking home gold is Stephane and Sophie-Andree Vinet (QC), after sailing a solid day with 2-1-2. Coming in second, is Christina Black and Naomi Flanagan (ON), and in third is Henry Lockyer and Max Wood-Westenberg (NS). Full results.

On the Club 420 course, both the Gold and Silver fleets completed the regatta with six races, while the Bronze fleet finished with three. At the top of the Gold fleet in first place is Patrick Wilson and Arie Moffat (NS) with straight bullets in the three races today. In second is Georgie Lewin-LaFrance and Kyla MacLennan (NS), and one point behind them, in third place, is Alyson Turner and Terra Carling Lanteigne (NS). In the Silver fleet, taking home gold is Justin Venturo and Avery Sly (ON), with Samuel Fulmat and Daniel Panting (ON) in second and Liam Field and Laura Manuge (NS). In Bronze fleet, Sarah Sackville and crew (ON) finish in first, Isabella and Annaka Hoelk (BC), in second and Peter Steo and Kim Kusmunskey in third. Gold full results.

The Lasers had a full day of sailing, completing the event with a total of 11 races. Leading the fleet is Max Gallant (BC), coming in first, with Luke Ruitenberg (NS) in second and and Ross Murdoch (ON) in third. Full results.

The Laser 4.7s, sailing a solid day of straight bullets, is Kelsey Slack (PA). In second is Rachel Holick (NJ) and with Leo Roy (QC) in third. Full results.

The Radial Gold fleet completed 3 races today for a total of 8 races. At the top of the fleet and coming in first is Matti Muru (ON), with 8 points. In second is Reece Myerscough (BC) and in third is Alexander Fritz (BC), both with 10 points. Leading the silver fleet is Fillah Karim (BC), in first place. In second is Michael Jenkins (ON) and in third is Boyd Borjiet (BC). In the Bronze fleet, Eric Purcell (NS) finished in first, Damien Easton (ON) in second and Ainsley Doell (ON) in third.
