Canadian Senior National Championships begin Saturday

Kingston, ON (August 15, 2014) – Hot on the heels of hosting the Youth Championships, CORK Kingston is set to greet over 250 sailors at the Olympic Classes Regatta & Senior National Championships. Registration & check-in begins today with racing from Saturday through until Wednesday August 20th.

Several members of the Canadian Sailing Team are in town and excited to sail CORK OCR/Senior Championships as final preparation for the World Championships in September. The laser fleet includes 5 CST sailors, Lee Parkhill (fresh from the RIO test event), Evert McLaughlin, Tom Ramshaw, Matt Ryder & February Sailor of the month Robert Davis. National Team coach Steve Mitchell is looking forward to using this event as a build up for the ISAF World Championships in Santander, Spain. “Podium & Top 10 for all five guys is the expectation for this event. We have been working hard on improving on their weaknesses from the European season.”

The Radial fleet will have 4 CST sailors competing including Brenda Bowskill, Claire Merry, Violet Stafford & Sarah Douglas while the Finn fleet will see Olympian Greg Douglas, Martin Robitaille, Jeff Roney, Kyle Martin & Riley Finch competing for top spot among the heavyweights.

49er & FX teams have been training in Kingston for over a week now, and are ready for action including Barnes/Mori, Brodeur/Inkpen, & the Ferguson brothers. FX teams also prepping for the Worlds include Rafuse/Boyd, Berry/Merry teams. Canadian Youth World team members Fannie Alcala & Gabriel Verrier-Paquette will test training at CORK in the RSX fleet.
