SAILING Champions League to determine Best Club

Published on August 18th, 2014

What has been working well for years in Europe for football, is now being applied in the form of national sailing leagues.

The concept was first launched in Germany in 2013, where for the first time clubs sailed in a club competition directly against each other in the national sailing league. The old-established battle ‘club versus club’ did result in an identification of the sailors with their club, something, that was formerly not known in Germany. This enthusiasm was not only transferred to the whole sailing community, but also to the regional and nationwide media.

With a league now formed in Denmark, and countries like Russia, Austria, Sweden, the Czech Republic and the USA expressing interest in establishing national sailing leagues, the new SAILING Champions League will be inviting 36 of the top sailing clubs, from 23 nations, to Copenhagen, Denmark to compete for the title of Best Club on October 17-19.
