Reineke, Peschiera take Single Handed Titles

Bellingham, WA (November 10, 2014) – Sunday was the final day of racing at the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Assocations (ICSA) Men’s Singlehanded and Women’s Singlehanded Championship. The event was hosted by Western Washington University & Bellingham Bay Yacht Club. On day 1, the sailors were without breeze, and were looking to sail a strong series yesterday to wrap up the event.

The top three men were College of Charleston’s Stefano Peschiera, Stanford’s Luke Miller and the Coast Guard Academy’s Avery Fanning. Peschiera earned the Glen S. Foster Trophy. Peschiera took the victory at the ICSA Men’s Singlehanded National Championships, adding a second National Title to the Cougars weekend performance. After 6 races in Bellingham, Washington, the Cougars come away with the win thanks to a consistent showing by Peschiera, finishing with just 15pts across the series.

An elite field of 18 women sailed 14-foot Lasers in the ICSA National Championships. The first three women were Boston College’s Erika Reinake, Brown’s Lindsey Baab and the Coast Guard Academy’s Dana Rhode. Reinake won the Janet Lutz Trophy. This was Junior Erika Reineke’s third consecutive ICSA Women’s Singlehanded National Sailing Championship.

Reineke, a native of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, compiled 10 points to finish in first place. She placed second in the first race, first in the second and placed third in the third race. Reineke finished second in the final two races to win the event. Brown’s Lindsey Baab was second with 17 points, while Coast Guard’s Dana Rohde was third with 19 points.

Reineke, an Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) All-American last year, was also a finalist for Women’s Sailor of the Year in June of 2014.
