Boy dies after Flying Eleven capsize

Belmont, Australia (February 11, 2015) – An 11-year old boy that was sailing a Flying Eleven has died, reports ABC News, after getting entangled in the rigging during a capsize. Two 11-year-old boys took the boat out for an afternoon sail on Lake Macquarie in mild conditions on February 7. A nearby fisherman came to their aid, helping to transfer the injured boy to a hospital where he was admitted in critical condition. The deceased boy was wearing a life jacket. Flying Eleven class yachts were designed in Australia in the mid-1960s as a high performance, light weight racing dinghy for young people generally aged 10-18.
