Chicago, IL (September 14, 2015) – On Tuesday, September 15 at 10 a.m. CT, America’s Cup leadership will announce Chicago dates for the only U.S. stop of the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series, and the first time in the 164-year history that America’s Cup racing will be on fresh water. The oldest trophy in international sport, the America’s Cup, will also be on display.
The press conference will be held on the Rooftop Terrace of the Navy Pier. Participants include Sir Russell Coutts, CEO, America’s Cup Event Authority and 5x winner of America’s Cup, Matt Cassidy, Chicago native and current ORACLE TEAM USA Team Member, Kara Bachman, Executive Director, Chicago Sports Commission, Marilynn Gardner, President and CEO, Navy Pier Inc. and Don Wilson, CEO of Chicago-based DRW & Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series Chairman.
Local representatives will provide an overview of plans and renderings for the 2016 America’s Cup World Series Chicago that will transform Navy Pier, celebrating its centennial in 2016, into the hub of America’s Cup activity.
Following a brief America’s Cup overview on the Rooftop Terrace from the voice of the America’s Cup, Tucker Thompson, the formal media session will begin at 10 AM, immediately followed by interview/b-roll opportunities, sailing ride-alongs (RSVP required) and a walking tour.
