ISAF World Sailing Rankings

(October 19, 2015) – The ISAF World Sailing Rankings have been updated for the ten Olympic sailing events. The ISAF Sailing World Rankings are issued approximately nine times a year, with rankings based on point totals accumulated from each competitor’s best six results over the previous 12 months.

Laser and Laser Radial
The Laser and Laser Radial competitors had a good selection of 50-point regattas to compete at during the current ranking period with the 100-point Semaine Olympique Francaise the only 100-point event.

France’s Jean Baptiste Bernaz took the spoils on his home waters at SOF and as a result he climbs to World #20. Julio Alsogaray won the 50-point Semana de Buenos Aires and moves up a single spot to World #24.

At the top of the Laser rankings it remains as an Australian 1-2 but the roles have been reversed as Matt Wearn (AUS) overtakes Tom Burton (AUS) to occupy the spot for the first time.

The Santander 2014 ISAF Worlds rankings scores have been removed from sailors’ points tally based on the 12-month rolling system and Wearn has enjoyed greater consistency in his results over that period. There is no change from World #3 to World #11.

In the Laser Radial, Anne Marie Rindom (DEN) moves up to World #2 following her victory at SOF. Evi Van Acker (BEL) remains at World #1 after a strong 12 months of competition.

There are plenty more changes in the Laser Radial with six further ranked regattas this month.

Finn
Sweden’s Max Salminen claimed gold at the 100-point Semaine Olympique Francaise in a small but competitive fleet. Salminen’s victory promotes him to World #16. Runner up Giorgio Poggi (ITA) moves up seven spots to World #18.

Nacra 17
A fleet of 42 competed at the Nacra 17 European Championships in Barcelona, Spain with 100-points at stake. Ben Saxton and Nicola Groves (GBR) came out victorious and as a result retain World #5.

Billy Besson and Marie Riou (FRA) took the full 100-points on offer at the Semaine Olympique Francaise and remain at World #3.

Jason Waterhouse and Lisa Darmanin (AUS) stay at World #1 in the Nacra 17 rankings followed by Vittorio Bissaro and Silvia Sicouri (ITA).

Men’s and Women’s RS:X
Two 100-point regattas took place for the Men’s and Women’s RS:X fleets in the current ranking period, the Semaine Olympique Francaise (SOF) and the Asian Windsurfing Championships.

Trevor Abjean Caraes (FRA) took the men’s title at SOF and as a result climbs up to World #55, a personal best, from World #106. In the Women’s fleet, Farrah Hall (USA) sealed the deal and moves up to World #24.

Ho Tsun Leung (HKG) was victorious in the RS:X Asian Windsurfing Championships and climbs eight spots to World #24 in the men’s division. Megumi Komine (JPN) took the spoils in the women’s fleet and sits at World #49.

At the top of the rankings Ricardo Santos (BRA) moves to World #1 in the men’s whilst Bryony Shaw (GBR) retains top spot in the women’s.

The RS:X World Championships have just kicked off in Oman and with 200-points at stake, expect changes come the next rankings release.

Men’s and Women’s 470
Australia’s Mat Belcher made it six consecutive Men’s 470 world titles in a row following his success at the 2015 Worlds in Haifa, Israel. It was the third consecutive time Belcher won the world title with crew Will Ryan after he started his successful run in 2010 with Malcolm Page.

As a result of their victory the Australians hold on to World #1 in the Men’s 470. Runners up to the Australians in Haifa, Sime Fantela and Igor Marenic (CRO), move up to World #5 from #7.

Lara Vadlau and Jolanta Ogar (AUT) claimed the women’s title for the second year running with a dominant performance. They sit at World #8.

Jo Aleh & Polly Powrie (NZL) hold onto World #1 after a fourth at the Worlds whilst a second at the worlds wasn’t enough for Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark to overthrow the Kiwis.

49er and 49erFX
Dylan Fletcher and Alain Sign (GBR) leap up to World #1 in the 49er following a silver medal at the 100-point Semaine Olympique Francaise. Fletcher and Sign watched their compatriots James Peters and Fynn Sterritt take gold at SOF but they are left buoyed by grabbing World #1.

Peter Burling and Blair Tuke (NZL) hold a perfect ranking score of 800 but have only got two 200-point regattas to their scoreline compared to those around them who have three.

In the 49erFX, Alex Maloney and Molly Meech (NZL) have moved to World #1 based on the 12-month rolling system removing the results from the Santander 2014 ISAF Worlds that took place last September. Martine Grael and Kahena Kunze (BRA) drop to World #2 but won’t be left too downhearted as there’s only four points of separation in advance of the 2015 Worlds where they’ll look to defend their title.

Sarah Steyaert and Aude Compan (FRA) won gold at SOF and with a full 100-points behind them move to World #8.

Victoria Travascio and Maria Sol Branz (ARG) won the 50-point Semana de Buenos Aires in Argentina and climb up to World #15, a personal best.

Men’s and Women’s Kiteboarding
There were no listed events during the current period for the Men’s and Women’s kiteboarders.

ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Nominee Elena Kalinina (RUS) remains at World #1 in the women’s rankings with a perfect score of 500.

Alejandro Climent Hernandez (ESP) also holds on to World #1 in the men’s rankings.
