Orange Bowl International Youth Regatta 2015

Coconut Grove, FL (December 30, 2015) – The 2015 Orange Bowl International Youth Regatta was held December 27-30, 2015, hosted by Coral Reef Yacht Club with the Orange Bowl Committee as the Organizing Authority. The regatta was open to all boats of the Club 420, Laser Standard, Laser Radial, Laser 4.7 and Optimist classes with a maximum number of boats in each fleet as follows: 100 Club 420s, 175 Lasers (Standard, Radial and 4.7 combined) and 300 Optimists (Red, Blue, White and Green combined).

Prizes award for the Optimist classes were: Optimist White – 1 through 10; Optimist Blue – 1 through 10; Optimist Red – 1 through 10; Optimist Overall – 1 through 10; Optimist Green – 1 through 10.

Winners for Optimist Classes
Optimist White – Antonio Gomez, Club Nautical Acuarela, 238 points
Optimist Blue – Bella Casaretto, Lauderdale Yacht Club, 22 points
Optimist Red – Benjamin Fuenzalida Court, SYC Team, 30 points
Optimist Overall – Bella Casaretto, Lauderdale Yacht Club, 22 points
Optimist Green – Anna Vasilieva, 53 points

Eight two teams competed for the Club 420 class. Winners were Eduardo Mintzias & Katie Lounsbury, from CRYC, with 29 points over 12 races. Alfonso Garcia-Bringas & Daniel O Farril were in second place with 30 points, just one point out of first. In third were Connor Bayless & Kimmie Leonard from Annapolis Yacht Club, just 6 points out of second, with 36 points. The first place all female crew was Paula Resto & Katie deLisser from Coral Reef Yacht Club, the team finished 15th overall with 76 points.

The Laser Class had 28 skippers, and completed 11 races. Marshall McCann won the division with 13 points. Following in second place with 26 points was Ford McCann. In third place, Luke Ruitenberg finished with 39 points.

101 boats were registered for the Laser Radial Class. Leo Boucher from Severen Sailing finished 11 races with 16 points. From Surf City Yacht Club, Carrson Pearce finished the regatta in second place with 26 points. Close behind in third, with 30 points, was Chase Carraway from Lauderdale Yacht Club. The top Laser Radial female was Anna Weis, Lauderdale Yacht Club, finishing 9th overall with 47 points.

The Laser 4.7 class had 25 boats set to hit the line. Eleven races were completed, Asher Zittrer finished with 23 points to take first overall. Not far behind, with 25 points, Louisa Nordstrom finished in second place. In third place, with 32 points, Chloe Collenette finished the event.
