Shope, Clark master Midweek Madness
Published on February 11th, 2016
Eighty-four sailors competed in Laser Midweek Madness, the second stop of the three events that comprise Florida Masters Week for sailors 35 years and up. Held February 10-11 at US Sailing Center – Martin County in Jensen Beach, FL, the event attracted 47 Standard Rig and 37 Radial Rig sailors from six countries and eighteen states
While warm compared to most of the country, the temperature was a bit south of typical Florida as the fleet completed seven trapezoid course races in an unstable westerly wind ranging from 3 to 15 mph.
Peter Shope, a Masters World Champion in Kingston last year, was victorious in the Standard Fleet, followed by David Hiebert and Andy Roy. Al Clark moved to the Radial Fleet after dominating the Standard Fleet this past weekend (at Masters Midwinters) and showed his World Championship form in his win with Christine Neville second and Martin Willard third.
