Brutal test of stamina in Ireland
Published on September 3rd, 2026
The One Person Dinghy events at the Olympic Games is a brutal test of stamina – mental and physical – with the elite women of the world to get a measure of their preparation at the 2026 ILCA 6 Women’s World Championship on September 7-12 in Dun Laoghaire, Ireland.
The event has attracted 110 entries from 44 countries for the racing on Dublin Bay, and North America will be represented by Bermuda (1), Canada (5), and USA (6).
Reigning World Champion Louise Cervera (FRA) is back to defend her title, joined by 2025 runner-up Agata Barwińska (POL) – also second in 2021 – and Eve McMahon (IRL), whose Bronze was Ireland’s first-ever senior World Championship medal in the class.
During the 2026 Sailing Grand Slam season, which provides an international circuit for Olympic training, no one has dominated. McMahon won in Palma de Mallorca, Charlotte Rose (USA) took Hyères, and Hannah Snellgrove (GBR) claimed the most recent leg in San Pedro — fittingly, the venue for LA 2028.
That win puts Snellgrove in the frame as a real threat heading into Dun Laoghaire, while McMahon’s home advantage and Rose’s consistency make both hard to overlook. – Details
