Tom Allen leads Lightning Midwinter Championship

Published on March 14th, 2016

Miami, FL (March 14, 2016) – The Lightning Southern Circuit kicked off today with a gorgeous day of sailing for 32 teams on Biscayne Bay. After a few general recalls PRO Jane Ann Pinkas called for the I Flag and that was enough to tame the eager sailors. Racing was tight with three different race winners, but it was consistency of Tom Allen and his crew of son Karl and Jenn Millar that paid off. With a 2, 2, 2 the team is leading the fleet with 6 points.

The day started with the breeze from 170 at about 7-8 knots and built to 12-14 during the second race with a small shift to 180. The breeze topped out at 16 during race 3. Ched Proctor sailing with his son Charlie and Lightning newcomer Paula Grasberger posted a 5, 1, 3 and are in second. Allan Terhune sailing with his wife Katie and Sarah Mergenthaler Chin finished with a 3, 8, 1 and sits in third with 12 points. Tito Gonzalez, his son Alberto, Jr. and daughter Trini are tied for fourth with Josh Goldman, Jo Ann Fisher and Jeff Eiber.

Racing continues through Wednesday, March 16.
