BIMBOs May Disrupt Sailing Season

Published on April 1st, 2016

Oyster Bay, NY (April 1, 2016) – A US Sailing investigation has revealed the facts surrounding an incident when Members of the Brotherhood of Mark Boat Operators (BIMBO) New York Local 1 motored off the race course with all the marks during the 2015 US Match Racing Championship Qualifier.

“Water depth is our first and most pressing grievance,” said a BIMBO member spoke on the condition of anonymity. “We spent a lot of time measuring out the ground tackle for exactly 20 feet and the Principle Race Official continues to run races in Cold Spring Harbor where depths run 21 to 22 feet.”

Umpire assistance is another grievance. “We like umpires, they are nice people,” said another BIMBO member. “And while we appreciate the help they provide in moving the starting pin or gate marks, we charge a standard rate of one case of cold beer for every mark they move. We haven’t been paid by an umpire in over three years for the privilege of moving one of our marks.”

Roger Baker, Business Manager and official spokesman for the Local 1, “These are significant issues and this abuse must stop.”

Markus Downs, National BIMBO president, see that NY Local 1 is in a very delicate situation and the National Union stands behind them. “If the demands are not met, we will shut down the 2016 summer racing program across the country or at the very least the radio controlled regattas. Beer is serious business to BIMBOs.”
