New Leader at Star Worlds

Miami, FL (April 15, 2016) – The conditions for the fifth day of the Star World Championship were gorgeous, with 7 knots from the south building to 10 knots. It took four attempts for the 72 teams to get underway, with three teams over on the final start: Lars Ahlstrom/ Lars Edwall, Bert Collins/ Jacob Doyle and James Babel/ Scott Benson.

With five races completed, the teams now can drop their worst race, which has helped vault Diego Negri/ Sergio Lambertenghi (ITA) past Augie Diaz/ Bruno Prada (USA) who had held the lead since the second race.

Only one more race is planned as the series concludes tomorrow.

Seventy-two teams are competing from 13 nations: Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Croatia, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Switzerland, Sweden, Ukraine and United States.

Six races are scheduled, with a boat’s series score to be the total of her race scores with her worst score discarded when five or more races are completed. Racing is scheduled on April 10-16.
