World Sailing Seeks Hosts for Annual Conference

Published on June 7th, 2016

World Sailing is inviting Host Cities to bid for the 2017 and 2018 editions of the Annual Conference, the most important gathering of World Sailing’s decision makers.

World Sailing’s Annual Conference brings together more than 400 delegates over a seven-day period every first full week of November. It is the central meeting point where the strategy of sailing is reviewed, discussed and celebrated.

World Sailing Chief Executive Officer Andy Hunt said, “World Sailing’s Annual Conference offers host cities the chance to partner with an ambitious, leading Olympic sports federation. By hosting the most influential people in the sport, it is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the host city as well as sailing within the nation through traditional and social media coverage.

“In addition, the Annual Conference generates significant economic impact through local and tourist spend and creates a platform for promotional and sponsorship opportunities.”

Over the seven-day Annual Conference, participants plan for the future, make key decisions to drive the sport forward, share best practice and generate new ideas.

The deadline for initial bids is August 1, 2016. World Sailing’s management will then review and compile bids before the Board of Directors shortlist their recommendations.

Shortlisted cities will be invited to make a five-minute presentation at the November 2016 General Assembly in Barcelona, Spain before delegates vote to decide on the 2017 and 2018 venues.

The 2016 Annual Conference will be held in Barcelona, Spain at the Hotel Renaissance from November 4-13.
