Arete Breaks Bayview Mackinac Course Record

(July 17, 2016; 18:49 EDT) – Following yesterday’s start for the 219 teams competing in Bell’s Beer Bayview Mackinac Race, Rick Warner’s Orma 60 multihull Arete made quick business in Division III Cove Island Multihull to set a new elapsed course record, breaking its record of 23:12:51 from last year. Areta covered the 259 nm course in 21 hours, 44 minutes, and 58 seconds. Lead boats on the Shore Course (204 nm) are within 10 nm of the finish, while several of Class A and OO teams from the Cove Island course are already sitting on bar stools.

Bayview Yacht Club’s Bell’s Beer Bayview Mackinac Race on July 16 has the longer Cove Island course (259 nautical miles) and the shorter Shore course (204 nautical miles) .
