Nearly 100 students will compete in the 36th edition of the Student Yachting World Cup, held November 2 to 7 in La Rochelle, France. Crews from eight different countries will vie for the SYWoC trophy, seeking to dethrone last year winner from EPFL (Switzerland). All races are to be followed by GPS tracking, with teams from Cal Maritime Academy (USA) and Queen’s University representing North America.
Since 1980, the Student Yachting World Cup has been organized by students from the prestigious Ecole Polytechnique in Paris. For each country registered, one student crew is selected to take part of the event. The competition first went by the name Course de L’Europe before becoming SYWoC when the competitors’ nations got extended beyond Europe.
