35th America’s Cup Drinking Game

Published on June 5th, 2017

It was bound to happen. Sailing and spirits are hard to separate, so thanks to Andrew Stagg, the NBC broadcast for the 35th America’s Cup has been turned into a drinking game. The broadcast team and commentators are doing a great job presenting the event, but perhaps for those blow-out matches, this game can sustain interest when the races need it.

We take no responsibility for the outcome of this game, particularly if your time zone puts this game into that time of day when you really shouldn’t be playing it. For those of you ready for the challenge, drink every time:

• Ken Read mentions “modern America’s Cup”
• The fly time % is displayed on screen
• The stadium crowd is needlessly shown
• Ken mentions “gap maneuver”
• Ben Ainslie yells “Arrrrrrr! Guys what happened!?”
• Jimmy Spithill screams “No way!!!” at a another boat
• A team goes over 40 knots

If a drinking game is deemed inappropriate, which it certainly is when Scuttlebutt HQ is watching the races at 10am PT, we suggest taking the challenge and guess how many times the above items will occur. Maybe bet your pals… unless that’s inappropriate too. Have fun!
