Volvo Ocean Race on Outside TV

Published on November 9th, 2017

Outside TV, provider of adventure-sports content, will deliver an 11-part series dedicated to the 2017-18 Volvo Ocean Race. “Volvo Ocean Race: Raw” follows seven teams during the nine-month, around-the-world race, an adventure so intense that it borders on psychological experiment. The first episode is set to air on Nov. 13, 2017, at 10 p.m EST.

As the series begins, the audience is introduced to the grueling race as well as to the 2017-18 participants. The show takes a deep dive into the competition and its characters, recounting their time at sea during an incredibly physically and emotionally draining period; for nine months, these individuals’ lives are reduced to “eat, sleep, sail, repeat.” T

The show, produced by Sunset and Vine, features not only interviews with the sailors and racing footage, but also content from onboard the boats. Each boat is structurally identical in every way and a multimedia journalist is embedded with each team, tasked with documenting the ups and downs of the race. The journalist takes the viewer behind the scenes to see an unfiltered version of life on the boat.

“We’re happy to collaborate again with adventure-sports media partner Outside TV to showcase this amazing global race and broadcast our coverage in the U.S. in 2017-18,” says Leon Sefton, head of television for Volvo Ocean Race. “With the Volvo Ocean Race’s new digital-first approach, a partner like Outside TV provides us a terrific online platform for our content to be viewed and shared digitally in the U.S., as well as delivering television distribution.”

The 11-episode series consists of two 60-minute episodes (the premiere and the finale) and nine 30-minute episodes. The first episode of “Volvo Ocean Race: Raw” will air on Nov. 13 at 10 p.m. EST on Outside TV. Following the premiere, short-form clips of the action will be available on OutsideTV.com.

Outside TV’s content is distributed through a variety of platforms, including national cable, satellite and OTT providers, OutsideTV.com, social media and the recently launched subscription on-demand app.
