Finally the Final Four of March Madness

Published on March 26th, 2018

When only 550 people out of 17.3 million (.003%) correctly picked the Final Four of the 2018 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament on the ESPN website, rest assured no one did in the Scuttleball pool where sailors seek to demonstrate their hoops prowess. There is a reason why our friends don’t find us balling on the weekends.

While the Scuttlebutt editor hopes to make a surge when Villanova advances, he’s no threat to the top sailors who have a legitimate chance to take the title. Here’s the top ten and the team they think (or thought?) will cut down the nets on April 2:

1. Kris Matthews – Villanova
2. Shannon Velázquez – Cincinnati
3. Rob Beach – Villanova
4. Peter Manley – Virginia
5. Robin Team – Villanova
6. Fletcher C. Bauman – Villanova
7. Ted Kaczmarski – Kansas
8. Paul Toole – Virginia
9. Steve Lovendahl – Kansas
10. Liz Baylis – Villanova

Don’t worry if your bracket is busted as you can still influence the Greatest American Sailing Regatta, an event where US Sailing assembled 16 of the most popular sailing regattas in the U.S. and seeded the events in a tournament bracket.

Similar to the hoops tournament, all the west coast events are now eliminated, and while no one would confuse the Chicago Mac as a Jesuit event, they are alongside the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers as having to face some of the east coast powers in the Final Four:

Annapolis NOOD vs. Chicago Mac
Charleston RW vs. Newport Bermuda
