Baker dominates Optimist North Americans

Stephan Baker (USA) dominated the field of 149 sailors to win the 2018 Optimist North American Championship held June 26-30 in Riviera Nayarit, Mexico. Baker, who scored no worse than a fourth in the 9-race series, finished with a 40 point lead over Sebastian Kempe (BER) in second with Santiago Pacheco (URU) nine points further back in third. The top girl was Faith Hailey Toh in fifth overall from Singapore.

Also held was the North American Team Racing Championship for countries within North America, and the Nations Cup Team Racing Championship for counties outside of North America (entry list). In North America, USA 1, USA 2 and USA 3 swept the standings taking first, second and third with CAY 1 taking the fourth spot (results). In the Nation’s Cup, URU 1 was victorious followed by BRA 1 in second and SGP 1 in third (results).
