Egnot-Johnson Wins Grand Slam Overall

Oyster Bay, NY (September 15, 2018) – The fourth and final event of the USA Grand Slam series is the Thompson Cup hosted by Seawanhaka Corinthian YC. Seven teams competed in Match 40 class yachts, September 12-15.

The Thompson Cup is the fourth event in the GRAND SLAM Grade 2 Match Race Series. The winner of the Grand Slam earns a qualification spot at the Congressional Cup at Long Beach YC.

Eric Monnin and team (SUI) took the win at the Thompson Cup 3–1 against Nick Egnot-Johnson (NZL). However, the New Zealanders take the overall USA Grand Slam series win and the invitation to the Congressional Cup.

In the Petit Final, and the battle of the American teams, Chris Poole (USA) came from behind to win 2–1 against Pearson Potts.

Background:
The 8th edition of the Grand Slam Series brings together four Grade 2 match racing events in 2018, offering a compact circuit in August and September to attract top ranked foreign sailors to the U.S. and provide North American match racers with high level competition. Additionally, the winner of the series gets an invitation to the 2019 Congressional Cup, the only World Sailing Grade One Match Race event in the USA.
