Published on June 7th, 2019

Lake Geneva, WI (June 7, 2019) – The first day of racing is in the books at the annual Melges 14 U.S. National Championship. Three days of racing are in store for the weekend with eight races scheduled, June 7-9, 2019.

Today’s three races were all dominated by Erik Bowers from Minnetonka, Minnesota. Erik leads the event with a picket fence, followed by Chapman Petersen, Vincent Porter, Eddie Cox, and Andy Burdick.

“I went out of my way to come to this event and it’s been a lot of fun,” said Bowers. “Everyone in this fleet is really great.”

The Melges 14 fleet is grounded in both racing and camaraderie, so this event is no exception. Saturday night will feature a lakeside cookout hosted by the Lake Geneva Yacht Club in the beautiful Buddy Melges Sailing Center.

Going into this event, the Melges 14 World League standings were tight, with a three-way tie for first place between Josh Landers, Adam Ankers, and Daniel Thielman. With 40 valuable points up for grabs at this event, it will undoubtedly be exciting to watch the leaderboard shake out.
