One designs launch Cleveland Race Week

Seventy-two teams competed on Lake Erie from June 14-16 in Cleveland Race Week’s One Design Weekend, which was host to the J/120 National Championship, the Ensign District 5 Championship, and the Tartan 10 Lake Erie Championship. Ten fleets in all competed on four racecourses.

Conditions began with 12-16 knots out of the northwest, sunshine, and 1-2 foot waves on day one, with day two providing 8-12 knots from the southwest, with flat water and a bit of rain. The final day dawned extremely foggy and glassy; the regatta was placed on a 1-hour delay onshore before racing was entirely abandoned for the day and the regatta concluded.

J/24: Wind Monkey, Marcus Rogers, Eagle Creek Sailing Club (4 points, 4 races)
J/70: Bazinga!, Daniel Goldberg, American Yacht Club (14 points, 7 races)
J/105: Fall Line, Chip Schaffner, Cleveland Yachting Club (3 points, 3 races)
J/120: Proof, Michael Fozo/Robin Kendrick, Grosse Pointe Yacht Club (13 points, 7 races)
Tartan 10: Hooligan, Trey Sheehan, Edgewater Yacht Club (9 points, 6 races)
Ensign: Questar, Jonathan Gorbold, Canandaigua Yacht Club (7 points, 5 races)
Jet 14: Funky Llama, Bridget Ireland, Hoover Sailing Club (4 points, 4 races)
Interlake: Sloopy, Bryan Parker, North Olmsted (5 points, 4 races)
VX One: Tron, Skip Barnes, Sandusky Sailing Club (6 points, 4 races)
Melges 32: Black Seal, Seth Young, Lakeside Yacht Club (4 points, 3 races)

Following two days off, Cleveland Race Week starts up again on June 19 with the Junior Day, Women’s, Doublehanded, and RC Boat Racing. Offshore Racing will begin on June 20 continue through the June 23
