Baby It’s Cold Outside (The Frostbiting Song)

Published on December 23rd, 2019

Centerport Yacht Club (Centerport, NY) is making merry again, releasing a new “yacht carol” (like yacht rock, only merrier) just in time for Christmas.

It’s the follow-up to last year’s international hit, Santa Baby (I Want A Yacht), and this time, CYC First Lady Amy Jane Finnerty (Rosanes) is joined by her fellow club member and co-star, Kenny T, with a nautical new version of an old classic – Baby It’s Cold Outside (The Frostbiting Song) – that once and for all answers the question, “Say, what’s in this drink?” Rum!

The “yule log” – an homage to the classic New York WPIX-TV Yule Log – was filmed in the fireplace of the club’s trophy room, where CYC frostbiters enjoy hot soup and cold beer on Sundays after racing.

When asked if yacht carols were going to become a regular CYC holiday tradition, Amy Jane demurred, saying, “Well, last year we got a yacht, and this year we got the guy/girl and we got to go sailing…what more could a sailor wish for?”

Baby It’s Cold Outside (The Frostbiting Song)
I really can’t stay (but baby, it’s cold outside)
I must sail away (but baby, it’s cold outside)
This evening has been (been hoping that you’d pop in)
So very nice (but you can’t launch, it’s solid ice)
My skipper will start to worry (hey handsome what’s your hurry?)
The PRO is pacing the floor (listen to that Northerly roar)
So really I’d better scurry (hey sailor, what’s your hurry)
But maybe just a half a drink more (you can check the tides while I pour)

Club members might think (but baby, it’s stark out there)
Say what’s in this drink? (so dark, ‘n stormy out there)
I wish I knew how (it’s gusting to 40 now)
To break this spell (that’s not just chop, they’re 10-foot swells)
I ought to say, no, no, no miss (the fireplace is such pure bliss)
Well, maybe I could say that I tried (let some other guy catch a ride)

I really can’t stay (oh baby don’t hold out)
But baby, it’s cold outside

I must bounce this joint (but baby, it’s cold outside)
That’s kind of the point! (but baby, it’s cold outside)
Your company’s been (how lucky that you dropped in)
So nice and warm (they’ll likely call it before dawn)
The Fleet Captain can’t be keener (your dry suit is at the cleaners)
The Race Committee’s there at the bar (a frozen rudder won’t get you far)
The beer and soup are delicious (wait a minute…there’s soup and beer?)
So let me check the NOAA radar (maybe someone might spare a spar…)

You could come along… (but baby, we’d freeze out there)
Stop singing this song… (the shores are all lees out there)
Frostbiting is grand (I guess I could change my plan)
Oh don’t you see? (you can’t go sailing without me!)
We’re bound to have fun tomorrow (my protesting does ring hollow)
At least there will be plenty imbibed (don’t you know this gal loves to gybe)
Let’s go out and play (no N over A out, baby!)
Baby, it’s cold outside!

(Parody Lyrics & Vocals by: Amy Jane Finnerty, co-starring Kenny T)
