California Offshore Race Week is cancelled
Published on March 31st, 2020
The California Offshore Race Week Organizers – San Diego Yacht Club, Santa Barbara Yacht Club, Monterey Peninsula Yacht Club, and Encinal Yacht Club – have made the decision to cancel the 2020 California Offshore Race Week due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 2020 event on May 25 to 30 would have been the sixth edition connecting three distances races taking the fleet from San Francisco to San Diego.
But after continuing to seek guidance from numerous government and medical advisors, it has become evident there is no longer a timeline allowing sailors and supporters to prepare for and participate in this offshore race safely.
Consideration was given to running the three events that compromise the California Offshore Race Week separately. However, due to the nature of the event and the unique opportunity to participate in 1, 2 or 3 events, the decision was made to cancel all events until 2021.
