Annapolis isn’t just for boaters

Published on October 22nd, 2020

City Dock is the historic heart of Annapolis, where it connects with the waters of the Chesapeake Bay, and where locals and visitors can enjoy dining establishments as boats cruise in and out of Ego Alley.

City Dock also plays host to a handful of Annapolis’ biggest events, among them the largest in-water boat show in the world. But with COVID-19 cancelling this annual fall gathering, and with the waterway vacant as winter descends, what better way to use this conduit than jumping over it in a car.

On October 22, as the sun burned off some of the dense fog that blanketed City Dock all morning, native Annapolitan Travis Pastrana jumped a car over Ego Alley at City Dock at about 11 am. The jump was planned for the early morning, but the fog delayed the endeavor.

Spectators lined up along Market House on City Dock cheered as Pastrana made the gap, soaring through the mid-morning mist over a neon-green powerboat that raced along the water. Pastrana, an American professional motorsports competitor and stunt performer, made multiple jumps after the initial success as they tried to sync the car and boat. Full report and video.
