America’s Cup: Peeling back the onion

Published on February 22nd, 2021

The Herreshoff Marine Museum, home of the America’s Cup Hall of Fame, is presenting a virtual presentation titled, The America’s Cup: Past & Present, with guest panelists Gary Jobson, Steven Tsuchiya, and Robert Kamins on February 25, 2021.

The program will deliver an analysis of the current Cup teams and review the Prada Cup series to provide insight ahead of the 36th America’s Cup Match on March 6. They will also examine the Match in the context of the Cup’s 170-year history.

Whether you love or hate the AC75 boats, is this new class emblematic of the spirit of the Cup? How does today’s compact race course compare with those of the past? Was the Cup ever truly “national”? And, more…

Meet the panelists:
• Gary Jobson won the America’s Cup in 1977 as tactician aboard Courageous. Since then, Gary has promoted the sport of sailing as author of 20 books, speaker, commentator, and consultant. He was inducted into the America’s Cup Hall of Fame in 2003.

• Steven Tsuchiya is a yachting historian. He is an enthusiastic supporter of the Herreshoff Marine Museum, serving as the Chairman of the Selection Committee of the America’s Cup Hall of Fame and as a member of the Museum Collection Committee.

• Robert Kamins is editor of CupInfo.com, a site devoted to the America’s Cup, and, with fellow panelist Steve Tsuchiya, is co-author of Winging It: Oracle Team USA’s Incredible Comeback to Defend the America’s Cup.
