Oscar flies at 470 Europeans

Vilamoura, Portugal (May 5, 2021) – The fourth day of the 2021 470 European had 12-13 knots for races 8 and 9 with all races sailed under Oscar flag which permits pumping, rocking and ooching after the starting signal.

Among the top North American teams, Stu McNay/ Dave Hughes (USA) are 17th in Men’s, Nikole Barnes/ Lara Dallman-Weiss (USA) are 12th in Women’s, and Louisa Nordstrom/ Trevor Bornarth (USA) are 5th in Mixed.

French crew Kevin Peponnet and Jeremie Mion climbed to the 1st place in the Men’s fleet, only separated by 1 point from New Zealanders Paul Snow-Hansen and Dan Willcox, now in 2nd after taking penalty turns on the last leg of Race 9. The 2019 World Champions from Australia Mathew Belcher and Will Ryan kept their 3rd place ahead of Sweden’s Dahlberg / Bergstrom and Xammar Rodriguez from Spain, 2nd and 3rd European teams in the Championship.

Nitai Hasson and Saar Tamir from Israel are still leading the Mixed Fleet but now with a much narrower lead of 4 points over the German Team of Theres Dahnke and Matti Cipra, which scored two excellent 4th places. Vita Heathcote and Ryan Orr from GBR are holding on to the 3rd place, 21 points behind the Germans.

Spaniards Silvia Mas Depares and Patricia Cantero, the 2021 World Champions, showing why they got the tittle, are still leading the French Team Camille Lecointre and Aloise Retornaz, which lost 1 more point to the leaders and are now 4 points behind. Linda Fahrni and Maja Siegenthaler from Switzerland sailed very consistently scoring two 3rd places and keeping the 3rd place in the leaderboard.

The plan is to have 11 races and a Medal Race on May 2-7.
