Valencia, Spain (August 30, 2021) – The 2021 Zhik 29er World Championship Cup in the waters of Valencia reaches its final stretch and it cannot do better across the fleet, the sailors ended today full of emotion and with much to decide in the leaderboard.

This penultimate day, marked by a storm in the morning that forced a postponement on land and by the strong wind from the second race, registering between 10-12 knots of intensity on an axis of 060º. The important turnaround in the provisional standings has also been another outstanding element of this regatta.

In second place overall is the French team, Keo Devaux and Enael Rio while the Danish team of Jens-Christian and Jens-Philip Dehn-Toftehoj are in third, with 51 points. Local team Quicorras Urios and Filippo Benetti move up one place, into fourth, just 3 points from silver and 2 from bronze.

Local brothers Mateo and Simón Codoñer (RCN Valencia) have taken a giant step forward in their goal of winning the title. The Valencian couple, with finishes today of 4-11-1, add 44 points in the general, they also treasure the first place in the Under 17 category. They have everything in their favor and they only depend on themselves to be champions in the next day of racing.

The Codoñer brothers said, “At the beginning of the World Cup we were going badly and now we are first. The conditions have been variable since we have made ourselves different from the others, but hey, in the end we are up there, which is the important thing. Also thanks to our coach Javier Serrano, we are also from here, so the conditions have helped since we are at home.”

The French team, in 13th overall, Chloé REVIL and Castilla NELL said, “The speed of the boat is good, we made a good start, we hope we did well, except for the wind, because it has done a lot and it has been difficult, but yes, we have done the best we could, but we will see . Maybe with less wind and cleaner, but yes, we will do our best.”
