Slingsby rolls on at Moth Worlds
Published on September 5th, 2021
Lago di Garda, Italy (September 5, 2021) – After the scheduled rest day yesterday, the championship stage of the 2021 Moth World Championship began today for the 139 competitors. With three races on the schedule, the Ora wind held for the gold fleet but a 60 degree wind shift before the third race for the Silver fleet did not allow to complete their entire program.
At the end of today the Australian dominance in the Gold fleet is consolidated, with 4 of the first 5 positions occupied by the “down-under” superstars. First in the rankings was Tom Slingsby with 8 points after two first places and a second; trailing by 11 points is Iain Jensen and third at 29 is Kyle Langford.
Ruggero Tita (ITA), sitting in sixth place with 35 points, found it to be a difficult day as the Ora was not the classic one. “I need to work on my starts but I’m happy with my speed. In the third regatta, unfortunately, just before the start I got off from the foils and was forced to a comeback race; luckily these are the conditions for which the boat is optimized so I am happy with the results obtained today.”
Provisional Ranking
1. Tom Slingsby
2. Iain Jensen
3. Kyle Langford
4. Nathan Outteridge
5. Paul Goodison
The race schedule had qualifying on September 2-3 with the championship stage on September 5-7.
