America’s Cup: Now there are three

Published on December 16th, 2021

(December 16, 2021) – The Circolo della Vela Sicilia and Luna Rossa Team made their entry official for the 37th America’s Cup when they revealed the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron had formally accepted the Notice of Challenge that had been lodged on December 1, 2021.

The Italian team had advanced to the 36th America’s Cup Match but was beaten 7-3 by Team New Zealand in Auckland, New Zealand. This will be the seventh America’s Cup campaign for the group, beginning with the 30th edition in 2000 and participating in each event since, though the team did pull out of the 2017 edition following an imposed change to the Class Rule by the defender.

Luna Rossa joins INEOS Britannia (GBR) and Alinghi Red Bull Racing (SUI) as teams that have revealed their official challenge status for the 2024 competition.

Following the publication of the AC37 Protocol and AC75 Class Rule on November 17, the entry period opened December 1, 2021 and runs until July 31, 2022, but late entries for the 37th America’s Cup may be accepted until May 31, 2023. The Defender is to announce Match Venue and approximate event dates on March 31, 2022. – https://www.americascup.com/en/home
