Published on January 17th, 2022

Griggs and Emery Diemar won the 2022 I420 North American Championship, topping the 27-boat fleet on January 15-17 in Miami, FL. The brothers dominated the 7-race series, taking the top spot by 17 points with wind conditions from zero to 30+ on Biscayne Bay.

Samara Walshe/ Lillie Foster were the top women’s team, finishing 7th overall.

Racing was extremely tight at the top of the fleet, with 2nd thru 7th separated by just 8 points. Of the 7 races, 5 were won by different boats.

Cole and Anabelle Woodworth sailed a consistent regatta to finish 2nd, 1 point ahead of U17 World Champions Freddie Parkin/ Thomas Whidden in third.

Robert Ulmer/Henry Allgeier were 4th, just 1 point behind 3rd, and Kyra Phelan/Timmy Gee rounded out the top 5.

This year saw many mixed teams, including five of the top 12 finishers (2nd, 5th, 8th, 11th, and 12th).

Mother Nature threw everything she had at the fleet and RC this weekend, including no wind on day one, a mid-day postponement on day two with the fleet going ashore for tornado warnings, and solid breeze for 4 races on the final day of the regatta.
