US Open circuit shifts to Clearwater

Published on February 4th, 2022

The last stop on the Florida edition of the West Marine US Open Sailing Series is February 4-6 in Clearwater, Florida. As the third event of the 2022 season, the Clearwater event features 151 entrants in four Olympic events – ILCA 6, ILCA 7, iQFoil, and Formula Kite – along with the youth Nacra 15.

As the feeder class for the Olympic Mixed Multihull event that uses the Nacra 17, the Nacra 15 racing will be the only Youth Sailing World Championship qualifier for the USA, and the first of two Youth Worlds qualifiers for the country in the ILCA 6 and iQFoil. Nine Nacra 15 sailors will go head-to-head in their one chance to represent the USA at 2022 Youth Worlds in the Netherlands.

While winter weather in Clearwater can get cold, the forecast is relatively mild with the winds decreasing through the event, and the possibility of rain on the final day.
