Broadcasting the Sailing World Champs

Published on July 25th, 2023

Occurring every four years, the Sailing World Championships brings together all ten Olympic class boats to hold their annual world title competitions. The event provides a massive display of elite athletes while also acting as the first national qualifier to claim entry for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Taking place at The Hague, the Netherlands on August 11-20, the 2023 competition features over 1,200 boats and 1,400 sailors, with host broadcaster Sunset+Vine producing five days of live finals coverage, highlights, and news during the event.

The production will include the use of a helicopter, two drones, on board cameras, 3D tracking animations, and an ‘Attack RIB’ unit – which provides live multi-camera ‘straight to social’ coverage from a boat on the race track out at sea.

The presentation team will be led by double Olympic Gold Medalist Shirley Robertson (GBR) supported by Olympic Gold Medallist Xu Lijia (CHN) at the Para venue. Meanwhile, American Chris Museler will be in the Pit Lane, Australian Nic Douglass on the Attack RIB and leading sailing commentator Niall Myant-Best (GBR) will be calling the action. – Full report
