J/24 Corinthian US Nationals East

Published on October 8th, 2023

Following the inaugural 2023 J/24 Corinthian US National Championship West on September 8-10, the first-ever J/24 Corinthian US National Championship East was held October 6-8. The event drew 20 teams for the 7-race series in Rochester, NY.

The first day completed three races in a shifty breeze from the south/southwest and southeast, presenting a strategic challenge for the participants. As the afternoon progressed, the wind waned, setting the stage for an event of varied conditions.

Racing on the second day unfolded with strong westerly winds blowing between 15-20 knots, with Telmo Basterra mastering the conditions with two firsts and two thirds, securing the first-place finish with a total of 18 points. The team included Sam Baker, Ian Hunter, Grace Mann, and Brent Penwarden.

Excessive winds on day three cancelled racing on Lake Ontario, with the results from the previous two days used to determine the final standings.
