Ainslie: More complex, more expensive

Published on October 12th, 2023

As leader of the INEOS Team Britannia challenge for the 37th America’s Cup, Ben Ainslie was asked with the event now in a year, if it was too early to say if he could win it or not:

“Yes. Honestly, if you asked anyone on the other teams, they’d by lying if they said they were confident they were going to win, or they had any idea, ultimately. They’re all six really strong teams. Of course, the Kiwis are in the hot seat because they are in the Final, but it is going to be one of the most hotly contested America’s Cups ever. And, I honestly couldn’t tell you.

“All you can do is focus on your own team, keep an eye on the opposition, of course, but focus on your own team, trying to get your program right, trying to execute, keep everyone together, keep pushing hard, keep working hard, and just make the most out of every day on the water and make the most out of, eventually, the race boat, and bring it together at the right time.

“It’s not that dissimilar to any other sport, really, but just quite a lot more complex and a lot more expensive.”

Following the publication of the AC37 Protocol and AC75 Class Rule on November 17, 2021, the AC75 Class Rule and AC Technical Regulations were finalized on March 17, 2022.
