Top 80 finalists for Mirabaud Yacht Racing Image 2023

Published on October 14th, 2023

The 2023 Mirabaud Yacht Racing Image contest has closed entry for the 14th edition, receiving 144 submissions from photographers representing 30 nations.

These images were taken between October 10, 2022 and October 8, 2023, with the event jury selecting the 80 best images which are now online and will compete for the public award. Public voting is open until November 8.

The jury will further narrow the field to 20 images and decide which is the overall winner, while the top 20 images will also be exhibited at the world’s largest maritime industry trade fair: METSTRADE Amsterdam, on November 15-17. A third award will be based on votes from METSTRADE visitors.

The awards ceremony will take place on November 16 at METSTRADE.

The rules for the 14th edition required the pictures submitted to reflect the spirit of yacht racing, and may have been taken at any time – before, during, and after competition.

Photos that do not relate with racing were not to be accepted, and only photos that had not yet been submitted for the Mirabaud Yacht Racing Image award will be accepted. An inordinate amount of IMOCA 60 photos made the top 80.

There is a history of this contest not following its rules, and there are some questionable entries. Also, the contest is for professional photographers, though it is unclear what is required for that designation.

• The winner of the Mirabaud Yacht Racing Image award will receive € 1000 prize money
• The winner of the Delegates Award will receive € 500 prize money
• The winner of the Public Award will receive € 500 prize money
