TP52 Class coming to America

Published on May 7th, 2024

The 52 SUPER SERIES annually attracts elite teams to race the latest TP52s, though you typically must travel to Europe for their events. But in 2024, the roadshow is coming to the USA for two events in Newport, RI.

It is the first time since 2020, when the world’s leading grand prix regatta circuit went to Cape Town for two regattas (the second regatta got canceled because of the COVID pandemic) and the first time back in the USA since 2017 when the TP52s raced in Key West and Miami.

To facilitate travel, ten TP52s representing seven different nations were loaded as deck cargo on a carrier that left Palma on May 5, which was the site of the season’s first event on April 28-May 2. The next two events will be on June 11-16, with racing alongside New York Yacht Club’s 170th Annual Regatta, and the TP52 World Championship on July 16-20.

Skipping the trip is the winner of the season opener as Provezza will be taking time away to await the completion of a brand new boat which will be launched in August to compete only in the last two events of the season. However, the two regattas will see the return of the Plattner family’s Phoenix which was absent in Palma.
