This award recognizes a career of extraordinary service to college sailing, whether as volunteer or professional; one honoree per year; nominees must have passed their 60th birthday.

A few quotes from Gail’s nomination letter:
“Gail McCarthy Turluck has dedicated countless hours over multiple decades to promoting and strengthening collegiate sailing. Her involvement with the MCSA and ICSA is truly impressive. She served as the MCSA Graduate Secretary and on the ICSA Board of Directors from 1998-2003 and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2003 for Outstanding Service.”

“She has coached Western Michigan Sailing Team from time to time and will resume that role Fall 2024. 2024 Outstanding Service by a Volunteer Award: Dana Magliola
This award recognizes those who have volunteered their time, talent, or resources to advance the interests of College Sailing at the club/team, Conference, or national level; one or two honorees per year; nominees must have passed their 45th birthday.

A few quotes from Dana’s nomination letter:
“He is all about growing the sport. He cares about every single sailor.”

“He’s given [the NC State team] confidence and that reason to come to practice and recruit more people. I keep watching them graduate good student athletes and think that’s the end of the run. But the recruits keep coming. That’s full credit to Dana. Taking on the reins of SAISA, he’s done the same but on a different scale.”

“He is an ambassador for the sport who promotes the legacy of college sailing while bringing new people into the sport. He translates vision into practical efforts for teams and the conference and actively mentors newer teams and student-leaders as they develop.”

2024 Meritorious Service Award: George H. Griswold
This award recognizes those whose service to College Sailing is exemplary.

A few quotes from George’s nomination letter:
“George Griswold has continued his untiring service to the sport of College Sailing. He remained on the Procedural Rules Committee through the period during which the Collegiate Dinghy Class Rules were developed, implemented and improved, serving as Committee Chair. He remains on the Eligibility Committee of the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association, serving as Chair.”

“In 2012 his work to establish the Midwest Collegiate Sailing Association Foundation resulted in recognition by the US International Revenue Service for the foundation as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. The MCSA Foundation’s purpose is to provide charitable, scientific, or educational support for the MCSA and its member schools.”

“He has served as PRO and Judge for countless collegiate and other regattas all over the Midwest during this period and more. The Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association has benefited in immeasurable ways through his consistent, fair, even-tempered hand.”
