Bayview Mackinac: What we do for fun

The 2024 Bayview Mackinac Race attracted a record 332 entrants when the 100th edition got underway on July 20 for the 204 nm course from Southern Lake Huron to Mackinac Island. Here are two reports from the race by Phoebe Wall Howard:


Karma is the guy on the Chiefs *and* the crew that rescued a man overboard a week ago in Lake Michigan.

John and Marian Hoskins, co-owners of Madcap, won their class in the 100th Bayview Mackinac race on Sunday.

Just a few days earlier, they placed second in class on their Santa Cruz 52 in the Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac. During that event, their crew dropped out to respond to a distress call and then re-entered the competition. – Full report

No one wants to sit next to the smoker on a boat. This is a basic fact in most cases. But it is not true in all cases.

Crew members on Fast Tango revealed that cigarette smoke played a key role in winning their class on Monday morning. Smoke was one of many tools (including spit) used to gain advantage in the 100th Port Huron to Mackinac Island sailboat race. –
