What boards did to scoring at Paris 2024

For the Sailing Program at the Paris 2024 Olympics, the competition format varies among the ten events. While each begins with an Opening Series for all competitors, advancing the top ten to the medal stage, it is here where the boards now diverge from the ‘mast and boom’ boats.
Beginning for Beijing 2008, the top ten in all events would advance to one final double-point Medal Race to be added to the cumulative score from the Opening Series. While the Medal Race winner was not guaranteed a place on the podium, these bonus points have seen medals won and lost in this finale.
But for Paris 2024, the board events now have a Medal Series which uses the Opening Series only to rank competitors for a knock-out format.
Windsurfing has those ranked fourth to tenth compete in a Quarter-Final, with the top two reaching the Semi-Final. They will then face the athletes that finished second and third in the Opening Series. Two will progress from the Semi-Final, joining the top overall athlete in the Final. The three athletes in the Final are all guaranteed a medal, so the finishing order in the Final race will determine who wins what medal.
The Kiteboard format has those ranked third to tenth compete in the Semi-Finals, going into two groups of four. Those seeded third and fourth after the Opening Series begin the Semi-Finals with two wins, while the fifth and sixth seeds carry over one victory. The first athlete in each Semi-Final to get three wins qualifies for the Finals.
In the four-athlete Final, the top overall seed from the Opening Series begins with two wins, the second seed with one and the two winners of the Semi-Finals start from scratch. Once again, the first to three wins gets the gold and the remaining medals are awarded based on number of race wins and seeding.
