College alternative to roll-tack racing

While the dinghy events gets the attention on the College calendar, not every student is the right weight or finds the love in roll-tack racing. For them, there are a number of keelboat events across the USA that also provide school competition.

The 2024 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta was held September 21-22 for 16 teams (15 schools) in Chicago, IL. The event was co-hosted by the Storm Trysail Club and Columbia Yacht Club with support from the Chicago Tartan 10 Fleet and the Chicago J/105 Fleet.

Light winds on the first day allowed four races which had the US Naval Academy in the lead for the J/105 fleet, and Northwestern leading the T10 fleet. The second day had wind velocity stronger but with much fluctuation, and while Northwestern took T10 honors, Wisconsin passed USNA for the J/105 title.
